Every april Coachella comes thru san francisco. You think what? its tru. the same bands play every year in san francisco the same week, almost like a practice gig. its the start of great tours here in the bay. For example, two years ago i witnessed the decemberists at the warfield and left halfway throug tothe ultimate gig at popscene, it included KLAXONS AND AMY WINEHOUSE! Klaxons headlined over Amy. it was something to witness. Last year i saw hotchip at the fillmore and after it was over ran to popscene for CALVIN HARRIS. This year, i went to the presets at Mezzanine and left halfway through to catch Late of the Pier. the glitz and the glam were all over the place, the youngins were dressed horribly, and the music was great. I heard most of their entire set, partied with the band, and went back to the presets. Coachella week kicks my ass, but its packed with great times.

The presets are amazing. Theyre australian, theyre a two man duo that makes music some bands couldnt do with a team. They have a range of singing styles and songs that can make anybody dance. The show was great, they played what sounded like everysong from their two albums and ep's. I had a chance to talk to them and they love this city, They love the gays, and were some of the nicest most humble dudes to step foot in mezzanine.

So the bloody Beatroots congorock and crookers were in sf at Mezzanine on wednesday as a pre-show to Coachella. If you havnt heard bloody beatroots, its hard electronic techno style beats sort of like justice. They rocked the house, and were genuninely exctied and nice to be playing the gig. Crookers on the other hand were the biggest assholes in music. First of all they got famous for throwing a beat onto kid kudi's night and day. They totally act like theyre the biggest thing in america, basically they were a bunch of madonnas. They scheduled an interview with my team and I and declined to do it right before because they wanted money. They were unprofessional and allowed groupies on stage to do cocaine casually. They had an entourage that was blocking the stage so you couldnt even see them. It takes alot for me not to like you, but dont demand money for something you said you had already agreed to, and dont make a club look bad by your illegal behaviors. FUCK CROOKERS!

HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR AT PROJECT1

WOW what a crazy show. Hercules and Love Affair first played in san francisco last july and again around christmas time for a benefit show featuring mos def. This time they played a secret gig at the discreet awesome space PROJECT ONE. hercules didnt say if they were playing live or djing, but it ended up being a full performance. Including a slight change in lineup. There was no nomi, but we had a black transvestite man who sang the her parts as well as anthonys. They debut a bunch of new songs from the album they were in town for recording. The crowd loved it, it was only about 150 people in the cramped art gallery/ beer and sake lounge.

PHARREL Williams and company played to a crowd of about a 1000 people for a special grammy party in san Francisco on tuesday night. The sex symbol played an hour set opening for The Hills anthem songstress, Natasha Beddingfield. N.E.R.D played all the hits, spanning from their three albums. I didnt stay for Natasha's entire set but heard pocket full of sunshine and some others. I had to make way for the special performance by Hercules and Love Affair.

I love that band name even though its so long and rediculous. They remind me of this years klaxons. This band has recently opened for Bloc Party's tour, NIN, and we still find them playing their headling tours at the same time. They already played at popscene, and Fillmore, and now after a change of date to a bigger venue, D.I.O.Y.A skip the tiny bottom of the hill and upgrade to swanky Great American Music Hall. JK well the two bands team up for Indie pop band BLACK KIDS first headline gig in san francisco and they're already playing the Fillmore on october 13th. I saw them open for Cut Copy and Simian Mobile Disco back in april when they stopped at Mezzanine and thought black kids were fairly good. Hercules and the Love affair are playing at Mezzanine next month. Should be
madness for their first United States date with a band. Also Squeak E. Clean, Spike Jonze's
brother who did that advertisement for Adidas, with Karen O. are playing a free
show with RSVP next Friday also at Mezzanine.

Another big show this year that just got announced is Sigur Ros at the Greek Theater
in October.

I went to the apple store with my boo. Islands were playing later this afternoon starting at 1:30pm.
they are also playing at bimbos 365 tonight. I really wanted to go but couldnt because i came to visit my family in san francisco.
Im sorry i missed fathers day to watch the Dogg Father in San Francisco at the fillmore. Pretty amazing since i saw him walk in. i even talked to him, but he didnt say anything because it was immediately after he walked in. The show was so good and they played songs by
Tommorrow Broken Spindles play a showat cafe du nord. hopefully someone will tell me about it because I love the faint and Joel is one of the nicest dudes i have ever met in a band.

today on GIRL TALKS myspace, Greg Gillis posted a new song. its not really a song.
it sounds funny and distorted, until you reverse the audio and speed it up. you could hear the
murmer of a person saying FEED THE ANIMALS. I recorded, made an image, and posted the video to a pic with some motion so more could hear the cryptic song. I had nothing better to do today.

DAVE FUCKING CHAPELLE i missed.
he did a few shows at the punchline agian this passed monday- wednesday.
these are always impromptu gigs that go on sale the day he decides he wants to do the show. they always sell out instantly and are the most intimate gigs you will ever see out of this brilliant comic.

I did catch the Ting Tings at Popscene on thursday. The show was really packed and all the tall
people in sf decided to come to this show. the band was awesome. two of the most intersting and unique bodies to come onto the music scene in a while.

Finally, Last night at the Mezzanine was Lifelike and Alan Braxe. This was a hot show. the dj setup enhanced seeing the artist from all around the venue. Both dj's played banging sets and jams that we would be be familar with from all those years of watching MTV shows. Great song and dance party at the mezzanine.

Last night hot party was crystal castles. The show was overly sold and i didnt have a ticket. we waited outside, even asked the roadie tech to help and eric, the drummer for crystal castles an exchange of weed to get us in. we found tickets from some randoms for reasonable prices and danced the night off. They were awesome, but played for too short. no complaints here, there mezzanine a little less then a year ago was more outrageous but still a good time at the independent.

Shitdisco played a DJ set the night of bfd at the afterparty. They opened the show along with Omar to play with Motor, MSTRKRFT, and Moby.

Shitdisco is set to play yet another DJ tonight at VESSEL. Should be fun especially since there isn't any cover charge and 2 for 1 drinks all night.

The Faint tickets for the Grand Regency Ballroom are on sale now. They also play on the release date of their new album, August 5th at the Fillmore. thats two debaucherous days to dance like a maniac.

Dizzee Rascal, M.I.A, The Presets, M83, Destroyer, and Santana all have shows scheduled for wednesday night. My top pics would have to go, Presets, M.I.A and then Dizzee. So my plans are going to be seeing Presets at mezzanine and then going to the Pink special after party to see M.I.A and Dizzee both do performances instead of at their huge venues.

oh yeah, for saturday night temple nightclub is hosting a party called " schools out forever" which is appropriately titled that on my college graduation day. COME PARTY.

How good is Fan Francisco ?

the last couple of months have been spent going to shows. March lacked an

abundance of good live bands but prevailed with DJ's. We celebrated with

Modeselektor at the mighty, Boys Noize at Fat City, Justice at The Concourse.

but this month was the truth. Almost every day in April had bomb concerts

with the Highlight being Kanye West, Rhianna, and N.E.R.D. I saw at The Arco Arena

in sacramento but it was also in San Jose at the HP Pavillion. Hot Chip at the Fillmore

was last week which was damn gooD. They played 'Shining Esclades, Shake A Fist, The

Warning, Over and Over, again. We went to Calvin Harris At 330 Ritch and Goldfrapp at the Warfield, The Verve at the Warfield, and not to mention the epic nights always at Mezzanine with shows like, David Banner, Ghostland Observratory and Simian Mobile Disco at the Mezzanine and it all began earlier this month with the Black Keys at the Warfield. The Comedy Show That most intersted me this month was Robin Williams at Bimbos. He was so intilligent and had jokes about The War, The Olympic torch in San Francisco, Masturbation, Rehab, and of course Barrack and Hilary and Larry Craig. I did skip out on Coachella but saw about 15 of the bands. Last 4 years been good to me this week every year in san francisco which is in my book better, because seeing the best bands in a small intimate club is amazing.

But my plan is to Inform the wonderful inhabitants of San Francisco about the events that go on in the Bay Area and Beyond. If you have tips or anything you'd like to ask me, just holla, im down for the suggestions.

THE NOIZE

so much buzz in san francisco this week. 100's of bands played this week for noize pop.

i caught 3 shows in the last three days including Human Giant ( the commedy troupe from MTV) on thursday night. Paul Sheer was missing becauze his recent addition to a new Jack Black film that is currently in production.

Speaking of jack black. Go watch his new film, Be Kind Rewind. The Best thing about the movie is Michel Gondry directed it. secondly, Mos Def is the lead character. 3rd, its funny, entertaining and has alot of value. Its unlike most movies you see but one of the most entertaining fims ive seen all year. It is my top pick for best movie this year. Cloverfield came in second.

Cursive played at great american music hall. We got there as soon as they went on and drank. They played a bunch of new songs that werent anything special, but i heard the classics that i love. The sad part of the evening besides there emo hard rock was no cello player. The last few tours went without it. Besides playing right before the Cure @ curiosa in 04, The Fillmore Show Cursive played in 06 was the most amazing show ive seen them play. Friday night was special but only cuz it brought me back to what was special to me when i first moved to san francisco.

But last night was truly a spectable. MSTRKRFT headlined at the mighty. I was on the guest list and managed to sneak in kathy. We got pretty wasted as soon as entered the venue. and even rolled. DJ'S were playing when we entered and served up a preview of what Justice at the Concourse will be. MSTRKRFT played a bunch of justice songs with orignal remixs with their signature sound. It was awesome to go with kathy dylan and Jeff + him=). Check out The remaining events for noisepop. i think monday is the last day. so try to catch one of the remaining shows.

Im so excited i leave to ny in 3 weeks. My jetblue plane ticket is booked and I leave the day after the Marilyn Manson concert. Luisa, my old class mate from school moved to the big apple 1 year ago and is making her return because of some circumstances so Janille and myself will be visiting her and staying at her Brooklyn Apartment.

School as begun and its going to a tough yet fun final semester at san francisco state university. Im currently taking their Audio For Video, Radio 2 (which will be broadcasted online and maybe on a shortwave frequency. The tower was fucked up by a pidgeon or something and down for hellla days), Digital Video Editing, and Audio 2. Im learning a bunch of cool shit at school and most excitingly a soundboard similar to ones they use at concerts and recording studios. Im in the csb club and already have enough credits to graduate with honors and was invited to go on the los angeles and vegas trip.

As of late, i got a promotion at the mezzanine. Along with a few other, a crew of people helped rewrite and approach promotions in a collaborative fashion that worked out and will change some things at the club. Ill be helping on blogging, The photo wall, which we need help naming!!! and doing more inside the office. The Warfield is getting an intersting line-up and is getting a facelift. Rumor says the end of April will be the last days of light when the theater gets a necessary facelift. It might be turned into House Of Blues, but all we know is the lease is ending in 2008. Hot Chips new album kicks ass.

If you've been lucky enuf to see one of their amazing live shows than you have enjoyed a few of the new tunes of this album. The album version of Shake a Fist off Made In The Dark gets technincal and interactive, while we are looking for love and the title track slow the dance to show you an emotional side of Hot Chip.

This album may sound like a break up album but is just a complex side of the band that some of us might not be used to. I Believe they just upped the notch for music realeases this year. my favorite album of 2008 so far. And a full tour ensues shortly with hotchip playing a bunch of us dates including The Fillmore on April 24th 2007, Coachella a few days later, and nyc.

The Marquee

let me first start off by saying its super nice. 1015 folsom is a swanky ass beautiful venue

that'll be transformed in the upcoming months. The name change will be the Marquee. We attended a 1015 Folsom event on friday because the booker at 3 udders productions needed some folks to get the word about the revitalization of a not so well recieved club. As promoters for the venue, we went around the city of san francisco and bay area to shows, clubs and online to get a crowd to see whats new about the venue.

The opening night would feature music of a shitty band known as the Donnas. Who still gives a shit about this girl group. I personally felt it was a poor choice to get this band to play the opening of the club but i did try to get people to come out on the RAINY friday opening.

Let me start off by saying the space is awesome. the 5 rooms can easily be turned into a sf hotspotwith rooms that'll function for different things. With a team of good bookers, an amazing location, 3 Udders will bring some of the best bands to the SOMA location. Stay tuned to hear more about what there is to come in the near future. Lookout for a new website and huge talent by march.
